TCMA New Years Day 5k

Join us for an in-person New Years Day 5k to celebrate the beginning of 2021! Under guidance of the Washington State COVID-19 Reopening Requirements for Phase 2, we will be offering a modified, live 5K on Friday January 1, 2021.  For safety protocol, please see the event procedures below.

Start Times: 8:00 AM to 10:45 AM

Capped at 600.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have a 600 person limit, with a staggered start time.  In order for this to be feasible, the event must sell out by  December  17 by 11:59 PM.

Refund Policy:
If the event is not sold out by December 17 participants will receive 100% refund.

Cancelation Policy:
Supplies will begin to be purchased after the event is full or the registration cutoff date has passed, in the event the race is canceled by the governing bodies due to COVID - 19 a 70% refund will be made back to your credit card, the event will be virtual and you can pick up your swag at Fleet Feet Tacoma.

We will release 200 runners per hour. When registering you will choose you 15 minute time slot to come to the start line. Before then you must stay in your cars.

Once the 50 person time slots are full you must select another start time slot.

2020 COVID- 19 Event Procedures 

TCMA will strictly follow and implement the Phase 2 COVID-19 Reopening Requirements for outdoor bicycle, running, cross country skiing, and non-motorized boating: races, tours, and rides to protect the safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff. The following practices are required of all participants:

1. All pre-registration must occur online. There will be no day of registration.

2. Packet pick-up will be staggered the week prior to the race. You may have friends / family pick-up your packet, no ID required. To ensure the safety of race participants, staff, and volunteers individuals must wear a mask when picking up their packet. NO packets will be available race morning, NO exceptions. Masks will be provided to all runners in their race packets. Masks will be provided after they cross the finish line as well.

3. Starting waves of 50 participants every 15 minutes will be utilized, Runners will be released 4 at a time every 1 minute. Individuals must select a time at registration and adhere to that time to allow for social distancing.

4. Participants must wait in their vehicles or away from the start line until their start time approaches.

5. Participants at the start and finish area must maintain at least six feet of distance from all other people and wear face coverings until their race begins. Masks will be provided with participant’s packets and should be worn at the start until your wave has started. Masks will be available at the finish line to wear post-race.

6. If participants need to pass another runner, they need to pass them in a manner that is safe and makes the moment of passage as brief as reasonably possible.

7. Participants should maintain social distance of at least 6 feet while waiting in line for restrooms.

8. Spectators are not allowed.

9. Participants must leave the finish line area upon completion of their race. No congregating in groups at the finish line.

10. Participants should not attend the event if they have a temperature of 100.4F or greater, feel sick, or believe they may have been exposed to coronavirus. Should this be the case, participants will be allowed to complete the race virtually at their discretion and will still receive their race swag.

We are currently taking applications for the TCMA Ambassador Program for 2020.

Are you passionate about running, involved in the Tacoma running community, and active on social media?

Here is an overview of the TCMA Ambassador Program.  Interested applicants should apply HERE

Applications will close on February 16th.



A TCMA Ambassador is

  • Passionate about running. Runners of all levels and abilities are welcome. What’s important is that you LOVE to RUN.
  • Actively involved in the local Tacoma running community
  • Active on social media with public accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Currently not an ambassador with any competing programs


What a TCMA Ambassador does

  • Serve as race representatives
  • Run TCMA races. Ambassadors must commit to running 4 out of 8 TCMA races. 
  • Promote TCMA races. Be active on social media.  Run promotions, share your training, share discount codes and include the appropriate hashtags (provided by TCMA).  Post a minimum of 5 TCMA related posts per month.
  • Encourage others to participate in TCMA events through word of mouth
  • Participate in at least one TCMA packet pickup (our own or at another event) to hand out rack cards, talk to runners, runner sign up
  • Provide feedback. As a running connoisseur, your feedback in telling us what works and what doesn’t is valuable to providing quality events.

Fall Training

TCMA Virtual Fall Training Program 2020 


Stronger together, even if running apart

We still want to run, we still want to chase our goals.  The TCMA Fall Training Group is more than a training plan, we can train together even if running apart.  The virtual training program is an opportunity to stay accountable and connected to the running community while receiving a structured training program designed by USATF certified running coach.  Stronger together, even if running apart.




Dates: September 14th – November 8th (8 weeks).  Participants will have access to the program for two additional weeks.

OPEN TO ANYONE and EVERYONETwo programs to choose from.  Whether you are front of the pack, back of the pack, newer to running or an experience runner, workouts are modified for your personal pace and ability level.  However, this is not recommended from someone completely new to running.




Program Options.  Choose one of the following:

  1. Base Building
    • Build up your base and get back into running consistency. Focus is on building a solid aerobic foundation.
    • Begin with 3 days of running per week working up to 4 or an optional 5 days.
    • Training includes easy runs, strides, hill work, introduction to moderate intensity intervals and a weekly longer run.
    • This program is perfect for someone who wants to get back into some consistent training, has taken some time off running, or wants to supplement other training with running.


  1. Performance
    • Improve your running with a structured training plan to boost performance.
    • Begin with 4 days of running working up to 5 days.
    • Training includes easy runs, strides, fartleks, hills, tempo runs, higher intensity intervals, and weekly longer run.
    • This program is for someone who has been running consistently over the last several months with a recommended base of 20 mpw and is looking to improve their current base

Two Programs, One Community.  Both programs include:

  • Online comprehensive training plan with personalized paces. Train at an intensity that is correct for you.
  • An integrated training program with functional core strength training workouts to build a well-rounded runner, minimize injuries, and improve performance.
  • NEW. Two small group clinics (with proper social distancing) on running form, stretching, and speed & agility drills for runners.
  • Open communication and access to your coach via email and text.
  • Access to a PRIVATE Facebook group.
  • Newsletter with training tips.

NEW:  Accountability partner discount.  We miss group training too, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still run with a training partner (six feet apart of course).  Need some help with accountability and staying motivated?  Receive a discount when registering yourself and a training partner.


  • Online registration opens Wednesday, August 26th.
  • Cost: $40 per person or $65 when registering a training partner. Optional $12 for TCMA Training visor.

Spring Training Program

TCMA Spring Distance Training Program

Stronger Together

A 14-week training program led by experienced coaches who are passionate about running.  Whether you’re training for your first half or full marathon, aiming for a new PR, or looking for a group to train with this program will prepare you to reach your goals.  Choose from a novice or veteran training plan.


DATES: January 29th – May 3rd, 2020

SCHEDULE:  Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 8am. Various locations in the North End of Tacoma.  Mondays (optional) at 6pm.

LEVELS: All levels welcome.  Half marathon participants should be able to run / walk a minimum of 3 miles at a 16-minute pace or faster.  Full marathon participants should be able to run / walk a minimum of 6 miles at a 16-minute pace or faster.



  • Choose between a 14-week novice or veteran training plan for either a half marathon and full marathon 
  • Wednesdays at 6pm. Coached group speed workout aimed at improving your aerobic fitness and personal pace
  • Saturdays at 8am. Group long runs.  Gradually increase your mileage with the support of your coach and assistants.  Long runs are supported with aid stations, mapped routes, and the camaraderie of others
  • Optional strength training on Mondays at 6pm.  Warm-up with an easy run followed by 30 minutes of runner specific core work
  • Private Facebook group and direct access to your coach and assistants
  • Weekly newsletter with training tips and race specific seminars



  • Two coached workouts per week plus an ability-based weekly training plan with individualized paces

Summer Speed Training

Stronger together, even if running apart.  This virtual training program is an opportunity to stay connected to the running community while receiving expert training focused on building speed and strength.

  • 2 running workouts each week to be run on your own or safely with others following Washington State’s current parameters for social distancing.
  • 2 strength training workouts per week delivered via an online app to complete at your own time.

  • Access to a PRIVATE Facebook group.
  • Newsletter with training tips.



  • Online registration opens Monday, July 15th and closes Monday, July 6th
  • Cost: $40

REGISTER (opens Monday, June 15th)



  • Running workouts designed by a USATF Coach to improve your personal pace and speed.
  • Strength workouts delivered via an online app so you can workout from home or a gym at a time convenient for you.
  • Functional, runner specific core strengthening and stability exercises with tips, cues and video demonstrations.
  • No gym necessary. A pair of dumbbells, resistance band, and GPS watch recommended.
  • Stay motivated, get connected and get moving!




Where the Magic Happens

Your comfort zone is well, comfortable, but not a lot of growth happens there.  Speed work is meant to challenge you and get you outside of your comfort zone.  It's where the magic happens!  This program will challenge you to step in that place where the magic occurs, to push yourself, but always at an intensity and pace that is appropriate for you.
