TCMA Ambassador Program

 

We are currently taking applications for the TCMA Ambassador Program for 2020.

Are you passionate about running, involved in the Tacoma running community, and active on social media?

Here is an overview of the TCMA Ambassador Program.  Interested applicants should apply HERE

Applications will close on February 16th.

 

 

A TCMA Ambassador is

  • Passionate about running. Runners of all levels and abilities are welcome. What’s important is that you LOVE to RUN.
  • Actively involved in the local Tacoma running community
  • Active on social media with public accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Currently not an ambassador with any competing programs

 

What a TCMA Ambassador does

  • Serve as race representatives
  • Run TCMA races. Ambassadors must commit to running 4 out of 8 TCMA races. 
  • Promote TCMA races. Be active on social media.  Run promotions, share your training, share discount codes and include the appropriate hashtags (provided by TCMA).  Post a minimum of 5 TCMA related posts per month.
  • Encourage others to participate in TCMA events through word of mouth
  • Participate in at least one TCMA packet pickup (our own or at another event) to hand out rack cards, talk to runners, runner sign up
  • Provide feedback. As a running connoisseur, your feedback in telling us what works and what doesn’t is valuable to providing quality events.

 

TCMA Ambassador benefits

  • Free race entries for yourself to all TCMA races
  • Free TCMA branded gear when available
  • Discount codes to share with interested runners for 2020 TCMA races

Fall Training

Fall 2019 Distance Training Program

 

Stronger Together

A 12-week half marathon or 10K training program led by experienced coaches who are passionate about running and want to empower YOU through the power of sweat!  The program includes twice weekly coached workouts and group runs, a comprehensive online training program with individualized paces, distance specific training tips and seminars, and an optional strength training workout. 

 

 

DATES: September 18th – December 14th

SCHEDULE:  Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 8am at various locations in the North End of Tacoma.                                                                                                       

Optional Monday night strength training session at 6pm.

LEVELS: All levels welcome!  Whether you are new to the distance, want to take your performance to the next level or looking for accountability and a group to run with,

this program will help you meet your goals.  Half marathon participants should be able to run / walk a minimum of 3 miles at a 16-minute pace or faster.

PROGRAM

  • Choose a training plan that is right for you and your goals: a novice half marathon training program for beginners or those returning to running after a break, a veteran half marathon training program for those wishing to improve their performance and better their best, or a 10K training program. Switch between programs as needed.  All group runs and workouts are done together.
  • Wednesdays Speed Workout. Coached group speed workout aimed at improving your aerobic fitness and personal pace.  Workouts include interval training, tempo runs and hill work with individualized paces.
  • Saturdays Long runs. Organized and supported group runs focused on building endurance. Gradually increase your mileage with the support of your coach and assistants. 
  • Optional Strength Training. Warm-up with an easy run followed by 30 minutes of runner specific strength training.
  • Online comprehensive training plan with personalized paces.
  • Private Facebook group and email and phone access to your coach and assistants.
  • Weekly newsletter with training tips and race specific seminars.

Spring Training Program

TCMA Spring Distance Training Program


Stronger Together

A 14-week training program led by experienced coaches who are passionate about running.  Whether you’re training for your first half or full marathon, aiming for a new PR, or looking for a group to train with this program will prepare you to reach your goals.  Choose from a novice or veteran training plan.

 

DATES: January 29th – May 3rd, 2020

SCHEDULE:  Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 8am. Various locations in the North End of Tacoma.  Mondays (optional) at 6pm.

LEVELS: All levels welcome.  Half marathon participants should be able to run / walk a minimum of 3 miles at a 16-minute pace or faster.  Full marathon participants should be able to run / walk a minimum of 6 miles at a 16-minute pace or faster.

  • Choose between a 14-week novice or veteran training plan for either a half marathon and full marathon 
  • Wednesdays at 6pm. Coached group speed workout aimed at improving your aerobic fitness and personal pace
  • Saturdays at 8am. Group long runs.  Gradually increase your mileage with the support of your coach and assistants.  Long runs are supported with aid stations, mapped routes, and the camaraderie of others
  • Optional strength training on Mondays at 6pm.  Warm-up with an easy run followed by 30 minutes of runner specific core work

Summer Speed Training

TCMA Virtual Summer Speed & Strength Training Program

 

Stronger together, even if running apart.  This virtual training program is an opportunity to stay connected to the running community while receiving expert training focused on building speed and strength. 

8 weeks to a stronger, faster you.

 

 

DATES: July 6th - August 30th (8 weeks)

OPEN TO ANYONE and EVERYONEWhether you are front of the pack, back of the pack, newer to running or an experienced runner, workouts can be modified for your personal pace and ability.  This program is not recommended for someone completely new to running.

 

Program

  • 2 running workouts each week to be run on your own or safely with others following Washington State’s current parameters for social distancing.
  • 2 strength training workouts per week delivered via an online app to complete at your own time.
  • Open communication and access to your coach.
  • Access to a PRIVATE Facebook group.
  • Newsletter with training tips.

 

Registration

  • Online registration opens Monday, July 15th and closes Monday, July 6th
  • Cost: $40
  • No refunds given after the start of training

Where the Magic Happens

Your comfort zone is well, comfortable, but not a lot of growth happens there.  Speed work is meant to challenge you and get you outside of your comfort zone.  It's where the magic happens!  This program will challenge you to step in that place where the magic occurs, to push yourself, but always at an intensity and pace that is appropriate for you.

About the Courses:

You Go Girl 10k (USATF WA18027RMB). Courses start and finish at Mt Tahoma High School and finishes on the beautiful Mt. Tahoma Track. The course offers sweeping views of Mt Rainier, the 10k runs along the Water Flume Trail.

1k, 5K & 10k finishers will receive finisher medals.

Gear Check
Gear check is provided for your personal items at the start line. Please tear your gear check tab off of your bib, fill out and attach to your gear check bag (using the zip tie provided in your gear check bag). Your gear check bag was given to you at packet pick up. Please do not put valuables in your bag. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. You may claim your bag after you finish by providing your bib number.

Course Support
The 10K will have one aid station at approximately mile 3.  Water, Nuun Electrolyte, Energy Gel, Vaseline, and Porta-Potties will be provided. There will be a recovery area at the finish with water, refreshments and snacks. Medical personnel will be at the finish line, if there’s an emergency dial 911, volunteers and police are all along the course to assist you. Massages will be offered at the finish line recovery area.

Chip Timing
5k & 10k are chip timed by Peak Performance Timing. Results will be posted the same day.

5K & 10k Run / Walk Time Limit (Start Time 8:00 AM)
There is a time limit of 1:45 for the 10k (17 min avg. pace per mile). All of those remaining on the course must move to the sidewalks and obey traffic laws. The timing mats, medical staff, and finish line amenities will remain at the finish until all participants have finished.

Awards
Awards will be presented to the top three overall female winners, and to the top overall female master winner (40 years of age and over). Top 3 age in each age group receive a custom YGG charm, 3rd & 4th receive ribbons. Age group divisions are as follows: 9 & under,10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-80, 80 & over. USATF Rules, overall winners will not be bumped from age group awards.

FAQ

When does Registration open for 2018? 
May 12, 2019

Is there a Military discount available? Yes, there is a $5 discount for active duty military personnel only. You will see a checkbox on the registration page. You must show your Military ID at packet pick up.

Can I switch race distances after I have signed up? Yes, you can switch distances at Packet Pickup. There are no refunds. If you move up in distances please be prepared to pay the price difference. Pick up your packet first and then go to the registration table where the timer will reassign your bib number.

Is the course USATF Certified? Yes. The courses are USATF Certified.

What if I sustain an injury or can't make it to the event, what are my options? Sorry, there are no refunds or rollovers for medical reasons. No exceptions.

Can an entry be transferred to someone else? No. Sorry, no exceptions!

Where is packet pick-up? Tickled Pink at Point Ruston from 10:30am until 4pm on Saturday, September 28th.  We will not have packets before 10:30am.  Packets will also be available for pick up at the start on race morning from 6:45am.

Can I pick up someone else's race packet? Yes, as long as you have permission from them to do so. Written permission is not required.

Is there any way to pick up the packet on race day? Yes all unclaimed bibs from packet pickup  will be brought to the start line.

Will there be professional photographers on the course? Yes! Race day photos will be provided by CJ Photography for free! 

Is the race Chip Timed? Yes, the chip is built into the bib. Please avoid folding your bib as it could damage the chip, additionally please make sure your bib is visible!

Do you get a finisher medal? Yes! Everyone will get a medal.

Will there be a massage therapist? Yes. Behive Massage will have massage therapists at the finish line recovery area. They will offer massages at a suggested donation of $1.00 per minute.

Can you walk the 10k? Yes!

Can you walk the 5k? Yes!

Are strollers allowed? Yes. Please make sure you are not blocking or hitting faster runners.

Are dogs allowed? No, we cannot allow dogs at any distance for insurance reasons. Sorry. 

Where can I park? Mt Tahoma has several parking lots that will be available on race day.

Are there porta-potties at the start? Yes

Can I wear headphones during the race? Yes, be safe and don't turn them up so loud that you can't hear volunteers or police. We recommend leaving one earbud out. Be safe out there.
